Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has officially added Oceanus Highway to its growing fleet of environmentally advanced pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). With a carrying capacity of 6,900 vehicles, this latest vessel reflects the company’s continued commitment to sustainable maritime transport.
Built at a leading Japanese shipyard, Oceanus Highway is equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), offering significant reductions in greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. Compared to conventional heavy fuel oil ships, the vessel emits approximately 25–30% less CO₂, virtually eliminates sulfur oxides, and reduces nitrogen oxides by up to 90%.
This delivery is part of K Line’s broader strategy to operate around 40 LNG-fueled PCTCs by 2030. The company’s “Drive Green” initiative focuses on modernizing its fleet with cleaner propulsion technologies and maximizing operational energy efficiency across all voyage stages.
🌍 Wider Impact
The addition of Oceanus Highway signals growing momentum within the automotive logistics sector toward cleaner energy solutions. As global regulatory frameworks tighten and customers demand greener supply chains, LNG-powered vessels are helping major carriers bridge the gap between current operations and long-term decarbonization targets.
🔍 Interesting Fact
The vessel features an advanced exhaust gas recirculation system that significantly reduces airborne pollutants—making it one of the cleanest-operating car carriers of its class on the water today.
