Navigator Gas and Amon Maritime have joined forces to create a joint venture aimed at building two ammonia-fueled gas carriers. The new entity, named Navigator Amon Shipping AS, will focus on delivering zero-emission maritime solutions using ammonia as a primary marine fuel.
Each of the vessels will have a cargo capacity of around 51,500 cubic meters and will be built to transport both ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The ships will be constructed at a major shipyard in China, with delivery expected in 2028.
The project has received financial backing from green innovation grants and reflects both companies’ long-term commitment to accelerating decarbonisation in the maritime sector. The design includes advanced fuel systems, optimized engine configurations, and full compliance with evolving global emission standards.
The vessels will operate under long-term time charters upon delivery, securing commercial stability while demonstrating real-world deployment of carbon-free propulsion technologies.
