Singapore Tops the Global Maritime Centre Rankings Again

For the 12th consecutive year, Singapore has been ranked the world’s top maritime centre, according to a recent global index. The evaluation—covering 43 major maritime hubs—examined key indicators such as port throughput, container capacity, maritime services (including ship finance, insurance, broking, and legal), and overall business environment. Singapore achieved an almost perfect score, underscoring its strategic location, extensive bunkering operations, and robust ecosystem of professional maritime support.

London and Shanghai once again held the second and third positions, confirming their place among the top global shipping hubs. Notably, Chinese ports like Guangzhou, Qingdao, Tianjin, and Ningbo–Zhoushan climbed the rankings, reflecting China’s deepening investment and rising influence in maritime trade.

New entrants to the top 20 this year included North American ports like Los Angeles and Vancouver, showcasing increasing diversification of leading maritime centres worldwide.

Singapore’s enduring dominance is attributed to its efficiency—like handling over 41 million TEU in container throughput last year and more than 3 billion gross tons in vessel arrivals—as well as its role as the world’s busiest bunkering port, including a surge in alternative marine fuels. It continues to invest in digitalisation, decarbonisation, and workforce development to maintain its competitive edge.
